Amazon India Launches a New Fulfilment Centre in West Bengal

Amazon India today announced the launch of a new Fulfilment Centre, the largest in West Bengal with a storage capacity of 1.2 million cubic feet.

It has also tripled the storage capacity of an existing specialized fulfilment centre for large appliances and furniture, to more than 6 lakh cubic feet.

This expansion marks a significant increase in Amazon India’s infrastructure in the State, which will now offer a storage capacity of more than 3.4 million cubic feet across 5 fulfilment centres.

This expansion will help the 25,000 sellers in West Bengal offer a wider selection and enable faster deliveries of customer orders within the region and neighbouring States ahead of the upcoming festive season.

Commenting on the expansion, Akhil Saxena, VP, Customer Fulfilment Operations, APAC, MENA & LATAM, Amazon said, “West Bengal is a very important market for us as its strategic location enables us to better serve customers in the region and neighbouring north-eastern States. With this expansion, we will be able to support small & medium businesses while creating hundreds of work opportunities for locals in the State.

“Infrastructure expansion is a key step in furthering our vision to make e-commerce a part of everyday life, especially during the festivities – when safety, faster fulfilment and greater reach are of immense value to our customers and sellers,” he furtehr added.

Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, thanked Amazon for the ‘Puja Gift’ to the people of Bengal and lauded the employment opportunities that would be created by the Fulfillment Centre. She wished the project all success.

The new specialised FC in West Bengal will help ensure that customers can enjoy festive shopping from the comfort and safety of their homes.

Amazon also supports local entrepreneurs and businesses in West Bengal, with programs that enable part-time and full-time delivery opportunities.

Amazon India has thousands of Flex partners and ‘I Have Space’ stores as well as more than 85 Amazon-owned and Delivery Service Partners stations, in West Bengal.

The expansion in West Bengal is a part of the company’s plans announced in July to add 10 new Fulfilment Centres and expand 7 existing sites, across India.
