1.5 billion matrimony interests sent in 2020: Report

Online matrimony service, BharatMatrimony, released it’s Online Matrimony Trends Report 2020. With people stuck to their homes for the most part of the year, online matrimony witnessed some interesting moments.

Nearly 4 Million members expressed their interest more than 1.5 Billion times, to profiles they liked, during the year 2020. It was clear that Covid-19 did not stop ready-to-marry singles, both girls and guys, from connecting digitally and pursuing their conversations in search of a life partner.

Singles taking active interest

BharatMatrimony revealed that singles are increasingly taking the decision to search for a life partner on their own, with more than 70% of the nearly 4 million singles self-registering.

The top 5 cities in terms of registration by singles were Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai.

Location did not seem to be very important as 77% of men and 80% of women were perfectly fine with finding a life partner settled in any location within India or overseas.

30% spike in women making the first move

Women have been increasingly taking the marriage decision into their hands as can be seen from the fact that the active expression of interest to male members saw an amazing 30% increase. There’s also been a 24% increase in acceptance of interest from male members.

During the pandemic, women’s engagement on the BharatMatrimony app jumped by 59%.

Unraveling the insights for the year, Murugavel Janakiraman, Founder and CEO, Matrimony.com said, “It’s been an unforgettable year in many ways. Interestingly, despite the pandemic challenge, singles responded positively by continuing to look for a life partner and carry the conversations forward. The 70% self-registration and the 30% spike in “women making the first move” speak volumes about singles wanting to be in control of the choices they make in life.”

BharatMatrimony’s phenomenal growth during Covid

During Covid, while the member registrations grew across India, North India saw women members growing at 75% while the male members grew by over 100% as compared to the same time previous year.
